Curriculum Statement

Curriculum

At South Marston CofE School our curriculum is underpinned by the Christian beliefs that everyone can flourish together with community, hope, perseverance and friendship. Our curriculum is planned to promote: a love of learning; the courage to ask questions; sequenced learning so that children can build on prior knowledge to make predictions and progress their learning; a community where each child can flourish together with their teachers, peers, parents/carers and local community.

Our Intent:

At South Marston CofE School, we aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum that:

- Encourages a deeper understanding of knowledge and makes links and connections between areas of their learning.

- Inspires and enthuses our children to love learning and to see themselves as a life-long learner.

- Demonstrates our Church of England ethos and Christian values.

- Enable and support our children to understand the importance of mental and physical wellbeing.

- Prepares our children for their futures and challenges them to flourish in reaching their full potential.

- Includes all learners whilst creating a community of respect where they are tolerant of others views and take a responsibility for their own actions.

Implementation

At South Marston CofE School, we believe that we achieve this by:

- Our curriculum overviews provide opportunity for children to build on prior knowledge and understanding.

-  Our progression of skills documents allows children to master knowledge before moving on to new learning.

-  Our knowledge organisers provide children with a journey of their learning, so children can be inspired to continue learning outside of the classroom.

- Use of formative and summative assessment to ensure our learning meets the needs of our pupils.

- Using active timelines, referencing all subjects, will enable children to reflect on how information relates to other learning they have acquired.

- Offering a balance of independent and group work, allowing children to become resilient, tolerant learners who flourish within a community.

Curriculum Impact

 - Children will be able to make connections in their knowledge, skills and understanding within and across subjects.

- We aim to ensure that our children will be fully prepared for their next stage of education and are ready to contribute to their future communities, both local and global.

- Our work on social skills, Christian values, independence, resilience, curiosity and well-being enables children to flourish and live life to its fullness.

- Children’s progress will be measured through constant and ongoing assessment, both formative and summative. This ensures children are on track to learn the content outlined in our curriculum. This regular assessment allows the teaching team to address misconceptions, identify any gaps and to adapt planning to support or challenge the needs of the learners.
