Curriculum

At South Marston CofE School, our curriculum is rooted in Christian values, fostering a nurturing environment where everyone can thrive together through community, hope, perseverance, and friendship. We have designed our curriculum to:

  • Cultivate a passion for learning.

  • Provide a structured learning experience that builds on prior knowledge, enabling children to make informed predictions and advance their learning.
  • Create a supportive community where each child can excel alongside their teachers, peers, parents, carers, and the local community.

Implementation

At South Marston CofE School, we achieve our curriculum goals through:

Curriculum Impact

·  Children will develop the ability to make connections between their knowledge, skills, and understanding both within and across subjects.

·  We are dedicated to ensuring that our children are thoroughly prepared for their next educational stage and are equipped to contribute meaningfully to their local and global communities.

·  Our focus on social skills, Christian values, independence, resilience, curiosity, and well-being supports children in flourishing and living life to its fullest.

·  We use continuous formative and summative assessments to monitor children’s progress and ensure they are meeting the curriculum expectations. This ongoing evaluation enables us to address misconceptions, identify gaps, and adjust our teaching strategies to support or challenge each learner effectively.

Enrichment opportunities and additional breadth

At South Marston CofE School, we believe that learning extends beyond the classroom, and we offer a diverse range of additional opportunities to enrich our children’s experiences. These include:

  • Off-site trips, including visits within our local community and residential trips
  • Partnerships with our local church and community
  • Forest school activities
  • Visits from external experts, such as authors
  • Whole school well-being days
  • Leadership roles and responsibilities, such as house captains, school council members, sports leaders, and worship council members
  • Music lessons, including ukulele, drums, piano, and guitar
