Curriculum Overview

Subject Overview

At South Marston, we recognise that our mixed-age classes require careful planning to ensure that all children receive a comprehensive and engaging education. To achieve this, we've designed a carefully thought-out two-year curriculum cycle (Cycle A and Cycle B) that alternates units each year. This approach allows children to experience a wide variety of topics, building upon their knowledge and skills year after year.

While some content may be revisited, our aim is to minimise repetition, ensuring that schildren continue to progress without redundancy. All units and objectives align with the National Curriculum. As educational trends and curriculum requirements evolve, we may make adjustments to further enhance our curriculum offerings.

At our school, we use a range of carefully selected schemes to support teaching and learning, including Developing Experts in Science, White Rose Maths and Jigsaw for PSHE. These are used alongside the expertise and input of our teachers, as well as school-designed and implemented learning activities. In some subjects, such as history, we have developed our own schemes and curricula, supported by knowledge organisers to help structure learning. If parents have any questions about what their child is learning, further information can be found on our subject area pages, by speaking with class teachers or subject leaders, and through our regular newsletters and subject information updates.

If you would like to learn more about our curriculum, please feel free to contact the school office. While the Senior Leadership Team holds overall responsibility, in some instances, the subject leader may also be available to provide additional information.
